May 15 - June 2
His Holiness the 17th Karmapa’s first visit to America!

The 17th Karmapa, head of our Karma Kagyu lineage, is at last able to travel from India to visit the U.S. This is exciting and long-awaited news for Karma Kagyu practitioners. We hope this visit is the first of many to follow soon!

Basic classes

This month we begin our ongoing series of four basic lessons about Buddhism:
The Three Jewels
Life of the Buddha
The Three Vehicles
Understanding Lineage

Every Sunday, 10:00am
At the Factory Street Dance Studio, (on Ohio Street). Directions and map

Shinay Meditation
(tranquility meditation)
We sit for 20 minutes, break for walking meditation for 10 minutes, then sit for another 20 minutes. Newcomers are always welcome, and an introduction to the basics of meditation is offered at no charge.

Tea & Visiting
After meditation, join us for coffee, tea, and snacks.

Basic Buddhism classes
Each Sunday at 11:30 we offer a basic lesson about Buddhism, with a chance for questions.

Study & Discussion
Also at 11:30, we study Buddhism together by reading and discussing or listening to a speaker. (On the first Sunday of each month, instead of study we chant the Chenrezik sadhana, a prayer of compassion.)

Welcome!

Athens KTC meets every Sunday morning at 10 am to meditate and to study Tibetan Buddhism.

Our meetings include quiet meditation at 10:00, then together we read and discuss material on Tibetan Buddhism in the Karma Kagyu tradition. Sometimes, instead of our group reading, we have visiting teachers give presentations. Coffee, tea, and conversation are part of these mornings, too.

We meet at 37 Ohio Street, in the building of the Factory Street Dance Studio. We invite you to join us (directions).

If you’re unfamiliar with meditation or Buddhism, that’s not a problem — we welcome newcomers and are happy to spend time with visitors to introduce these subjects and answer questions.

Our teachers

Athens KTC is an affiliate of Karma Triyana Dharmachakra monastery, the North American Seat of His Holiness the Gyalwa Karmapa. We are part of the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.

We operate under the guidance of Bardor Tulku Rinpoche and Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche of Karma Triyana Dharmachakra.

In our day-to-day study and practice we rely on advice from Lama Kathy Wesley, the resident teacher at the Columbus KTC. Lama Kathy is a longtime student of Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche.
Read more about these lamas at the Columbus KTC website.

Thank you for visiting!
